Welcome Home
Try to make the arrival of your new dog on a weekend or when you can be home for a few days. Get to know each other and spend some time together, but make sure you don't neglect the other pets and people in your household.
When arriving, give your dog a tour of your home. Keep it on a leash and let it see and sniff every square inch, keeping close attention just in case it needs to potty.
Be reasonable in your expectations. Life will be different for the both of you, so give yourselves time to adjust. You'll soon find out that you've made a friend for life. No one will ever give you as much love and affection as your dog will.

A Lasting Bond
Before bringing your new adopted dog home, take it for a long walk. Taking a long walk (making sure the dog is not out of control) can establish a lasting bond.
Only take it out for a walk if it has gotten its vaccinations!
