Everyone enjoys playing with their pet dog outside on a nice day. But before going out with your dog consider a few things; If your dog isn't properly trained you must enroll it in an obedience class, or fully train it yourself. You have to be completely sure that you can trust your pet around others and it has to be trustworthy wherever you go. Also before involving your dog in any strenuous activity, consider your dogs health and physical ability. If your dog has not been exercising regularly, schedule a visit with your veterinarian.
Fun Activities
There are plenty of activities that you can do with your dog. Hopefully, you picked a dog that fit your lifestyle. If you did, just do the same hobbies and interests you have always done and introduce them to your dog. Now a days too many people don't know how much fun their dog can be. Have fun with their dog, enjoy their dog them, they are much more than just a pet.
Here are some ideas...
1. Some of us need some exercise, why not do it with our dogs? Walking or jogging is a great way for you and your dog to spend time together while getting healthier.
2. What breed is your dog? Learn about it's history and what it was bred for. Herding dogs love to herd and will sometimes do it to children and even cars, you can direct that behavior to were it came from; take your dog to a farm a let it herd sheep and maybe do herding trials.
3. Do you love the water? Take your dog to the lake or the beach and maybe even surf. Many of the hunting breeds, such as Labs, love the water. You can incorporate fetching by throwing your dogs favorite toy into the water. Many retrievers love fetching, especially if it's in the water, so you if you have one you can try dock jumping.
4. If you have a working dog search for training methods for search and rescue, sledding, cart pulling and a variety of other things. Depending on what breed you have, you probably have many options open to you. Remember that at one time your dog was bred for a specific purpose and most dogs are happier if they are working.
6. Do some community service with your dog by taking your dog to a nursing home, hospital, or group homes for people with developmental disabilities. If your dog is easygoing, the people will love your dog. Pets can be therapeutic to patients, especially the elderly or isolated. Dogs help with both physical and psychological healing.
7. Does your dog have both the intelligence and drive to do dog sports with your dog such as dog agility, competitive disk, or fly ball? Or would you rather burn that energy in canine freestyle? A choreographed musical performance by a dog/handler team.
8. If you have a purebred and want to show of its breed, you can try conformation; where purebred dogs are presented in dog shows and judged for congruity with their respective breed standards.
